Stahlhelm Armoury Gallic Port Helm
Original: Circa 1st century BC Gallic, Switzerland
The is helm type is named after the find site of Port de Nidau in Switzerland. This La Tène III period helm began to appear in 1st century BC, and would have been in use during Caesar's Gallic wars. Quite clearly, it is the progentiro of the Roman Imperial Gallic series of helms.
This replica features a spun dome skull with embossed "eyebrow" lines, embossed cheekplates and neckguard. The riveted-on neck and tail section are actually true to the original. The whole of the piece is from 16ga. cold-rolled mild steel. The owner has glued period-appropriate padding to the cheekplates and there is a removable, period-correct liner which the author has mademaking this piece fully wearable.
