Rod Akeroyd & Son Fine Antique Arms & Armour
English Basket -Hilted sword
An English Cavalry officers Basket hilted sword circa 1740 with double edged blade(34.5") marked on one side with a"Running Wolf" ,"ANDREA" & some other illegible script& on the reverse of the blade "FERA" again with some other illegible script and symbols.The wooden grip is covered in ray skin & wire bound.The sword is similar to the ones used during the "American Revolution".A superb sword in very nice condition.

Scottish Basket - hilted backsword
A Scottish basket hilted backsword for the Highland regiments as used during the American Revolution(see page 142 item 243.s in Swords & Blades of the American Revolution by George C Neumann).

English Mortuary-hilted Backsword
A mortuary - hilted backsword as used by English Cavalry officers during the "English Civil War".The iron hilt chiselled with faces and 32.5" single edged blade with two fullers(grip replaced).A good example with a nicely formed hilt.

Description:
A Fine Scottish Broad Sword. Double edged 34” blade with running wolf mark & three fullers at forte, the central one marked ‘Andrea Ferara’ between X’s. Basket hilt of iron bars, interspersed with panels pierced with hearts & circles. The domed pommel with fluted decoration. The leather covered grip with wire binding. The rear quillon stamped with an ‘M’. 2nd quarter 18th C. Good condition.

Scottish Basket-Hilted Short Sword
'A Scottish basket-hilted sword with a short blade(55cm) possibly for close in fighting where a sword with a longer blade would have been unwieldy.The sword has a blackened patina overall & the blade is struck with an armourers mark. "
Back Sword to 42 Regt
"A Scottish Back sword by Drury marked to 42 Regiment on the pommel & of the type used during the American Revolution. The single edged blade marked Crown/GR & Drury. For similar swords see "Swords& Blades of the American Revolution" by George C Neumann page 142 no243.S. Ref:12922"

Scottish Basket-Hilted Backsword
A superb Scottish Officers backsword circa 1770. The hilt finely formed & of military style with detachable loops & fish skin covered wire bound grip.The single edged blade 36" long & highly polished is contained in a steel scabbard with two suspension loops & engraved with the makers name J Read & Sons. For a similar sword see the famous painting "The Pinch of Snuff" attributed to William Delacour. Ref: 12597

I almost had a heart-attack ......when I clicked back to Michael Longs site I thought the prices had come way down, after looking at what you wrote, than realized you had converted the currency, and it was Great British Pounds I was staring at !

yeah, kinda- heres a slight look at a pistol in that case as I was trying to get the tip of that baskethilt- I have several other weapons from the museum as well:
