I'm in the process of building myself a set of training swords based on the Amsterdam town guard model, using Hanwei Practical rapier 43" blades cut down to size. Of course, as soon as I made the cut I instantly regretted it, fearing I had made the blade too short to fit the historical model.

Can anyone tell me more about a possible range of appropriate blade lengths for this type? I've cut the blades to 85 cm blade length (33,46 inch), hoping this will still be appropriate.

Thanks in advance for any information!

Hi Bart,

I have an antique sword with a Walloon style hilt and a narrow, diamond sectioned blade. The blade is 33.33 inches long.

From what I know of these sword types, at 33 something inches yours will be well within the historical norm.

Best wishes,

Adam

Thanks a lot for the reply! The set is a first prototype run, so I'll probably play around with different blade lengths, but it's comforting to know that there's historical examples of what I'm attempting.
