Hey all, I'm starting to build a kit for an English knight/man at arms at around the Battle of Crecy. I already have a hauberk and the next item on the list is a helmet, specifically looking for a visored bascinet. My question is how much larger than my head should the helmet be? My head circumference is on the smaller side at 22.5 inches, and I've seen a lot of variance on how thick the liner should be. The kit is mostly for costume but I'd like it to also be functional for reenactment, so I'm looking for a 16 or, preferably, 14 gauge helmet. I'd go custom but can't really justify the expense at this time.

Thanks for any advice,
Alan

I had a sallet of 23 inch circumference from battle merchant, and my head is 22.7 inches. The helmet turned out to be too big and I had to add some foam paddings around the rims. The lining it came with is probably one layer linen not very thick.
