Today, while browsing the Sealed Knot Society want/sell adds, I ran across a chap selling some "handmade" mortuary swords. So, I thought, hummm, I'll send him an e-mail requesting pics & details of his work. Well, lo & behold he sent me pics......OF MY ARMOUR CLASS MORTUARY! that he has lifted from this site! Needless to say, I responded, informing him that the pics were in fact of... MY ARMOUR CLASS MORTUARY! ...purchased last year! If he is telling people at the S-K site these were made by him, I'd say he's about to be in a deep pile of poo.
Not over thrilled about this as you may be able to tell.

Such is life on the web. We're such a photo intensive site that I'm sure this happens far more often than we're aware of.

True Patrick. But what just baffles the crap out of me are what are the chances of it actuallly being my sword.

Not a word. Someone ...a Andrew Watson has replyed to the SKS web-site about it and I followed up with a reply of my own. I asked the SKS admins. to look into the matter.

William;
There are people who will defraud old people out of their pension savings so why be supprised that somebody would pull a stunt like this.
A little while back, here in Montreal, some Troll pushed a 90 year old woman down a flight of stairs to steal her purse in our subway
Before the assault she was still living an active and independant life
The only good news is that she is recovering but she may never get her independance back. Oh, and they caught the jerk !
( Note: Montreal is a generally safe city, but these thing can happen anywhere! It also made the news of the day because it isn't a frequent event. )
Good people have trouble understanding how low some people can go.
You can easily give up your freedom. You have to fight hard to get it back!

Hi Bill...
I feel for ya man... For what it's worth, you take a very high quality photo. I can see why someone might choose your artwork over all the others. But it's still dirty and wrong to profit from such a fraud.
take care...

Thanks Kirk. It just erks me that the guy is trying to sell stuff he didn't make and take credit for the works of people like
the fine folks at Armour Class.

Perhaps we could see about "watermarking" the photos put up here?
Sure somebody who's good with photoshop can remove it readily, but it would make it a bit more difficult to steal pictures from here and use them for dishonest purposes.

That's amazing. Did he actually say/imply he made them himself or just that he had a second hand or hand-made Mortuary for sale and took your pics for the purpose? I thought perhaps he might have had an Armour Class Mortuary for sale but not had a digital camera to take pics of his. If the latter, it's still clearly wrong. If it's the former, how did he expect to get away with it ? In such a small community someone would notice it wasn't his work. Was he planning to buy Armour Class swords and sell them at a mark-up as his work ? Or just run with the money ?
I agree watermarking pics can be useful. Making them uncopyable can be restrictive for people with genuine interest to honestly communicate. I sent a pic of Patrick Barta's amazing Sutton Hoo sword (off his web-site not this one) to a friend before who is into Saxon history in a big way to say, 'look what this Czech craftsman can recreate , incredible isn't it '. So it can be useful in a geographically wide-spread community with a mutual interest. But claiming you knocked them together yourself in your garage is clearly completely wrong (and in the case of Mr Barta's work I don't think ANYONE would believe you !). Armour Class could most likely sue him for passing-off.
Was this a UK person ? If so, regrettable that this incident came from our side of 'the pond' but with any luck the Sealed Knot might send a hundred or so pike-men round to his address to discuss the matter.

I noticed this morning that the SKS admins. have removed the thread from the site. Checked again, last night and the guy admitted it was wrong to use the photos, but still claimed that the swords he made were exact replica's of my sword..
"some people are dumber than a box of rocks...minus the box"...
And Daniel yes, he was from your side of the pond. I thought of informing Armour Class, but decided just to let it go and forgive the fool for his actions. Thanks for the support you guys.
