Unsure if this is the right section to post this in but I’ll give it a shot. I’m looking for a smith local to me to have a military saber style sword made. Can anyone give any recommendations within the PNW area?

Maybe Michael Tinker Pearce? Not sure if he does military sabers or not. I think he's down in Pierce or Thurston County somewhere

http://tinkerswords.com/ | Unfortunately his website says he’s not taking custom work.

Hiller,
Rather than simply commissioning something locally, it is worth your while to find a smith whose work you like, and whose price point is appropriate for you-- this of course assuming that you have a clear understanding of the range of prices for custom work.
There is a great deal of variation in how particular smiths execute their work. There are some custom smiths whom I would never order from because the way they execute their work is not to my liking. It would not matter to me whether they were local or not, because my expectations would not be met by their work. Likewise, if a smith is in the UK, or Germany, or Poland, or Australia, but I knew their work and liked it, I wouldn't hesitate to contact them with a project simply because they're not near me. Yes, the shipping might be a bit different, but when you're paying for a custom sword, it's worth paying a bit more on the shipping and having something done more in alignment with what you want than paying less for a smith who won't be able to deliver.
