Had the chance to play with an Anglo Saxon group (The Huscarls) this weekend at a show. We had 5 mounted Normans on the field and charged the Saxon shield wall throwing (padded) spears and finally closing with sword. I would be surrounded and dragged of the horse to be killed.

Had an absolute ball. I had to drag my early period kit out of a 5 yr storage. It is a bit of a mish mash of my old 11thC and 12thC stuff as over the years I have misplaced, sold or lost bits.

The horse vs foot combat was unchoreographed and pretty fierce. I am happy to say that not a single horse was so much as grazed. Everyone performed perfectly and it never even looked like anyone was going to hit a horse.

Damn it was fun and exciting. :D

Some initial pics. I have a bunch of pics and some video coming that I will post.

Yes, that is a big grin on my face as I am being dragged off to be slaughtered horribly

Looks really fun and the horse seems to have an expression of puzzlement on it's face like it's thinking: Humans are NUTS, what are they doing and why.  Where are the Mares ( assuming it's an intact stallion and not a gelding or a mare ) and when do I get to eat, sleep and poop. ;) :D

Your topic made me think you were going to kick a horse. I've clearly not gotten my sleep!!!

Looks like you had fun. Any other notes about what it's like?

Test kicking is not recommended.

Agreed. The horse might kick back.

That looks like soooo much fun. As a Norman reenactor, you got my vote of approval. One tip though, next time before you pull your sword, ride back down hill to get another spear... ;)
Seriously though, is that a square ventail I see on you?

Your helmet looks a bit the worse for wear which gives it just the right touch of verismilitude IMO. :D
