Ran across this on Greg Walters site www.antiqueweaponstore.com.
These are very interesting Cuirassier close helmets. Always remind me of the Sleestak from Land of the Lost series.
There are a lot of other neat items on this site as well.

Bill;
Aren't those great? I love those. I guess that when Lances went out of fashion at the end of the 16th Century, they didn't have the need for the serious "ship's prow" look that close helmets had, so pretty much any good defence for the face would do the trick, so these "Savoyard" helmets became the thing to have for Cuirassiers. Cheap and dirty, but they work.
Cheers,
Gordon

Gordon don't you just love these helmets! Great pic Bill thanks for putting it up. These 17th century Savoyard cavalry helms and tottenkopf (sp) helms are among my favorites.

Allan;
If the visor was welded shut it might be the inspiration for the " Man in the Iron Mask " ?

Some good iron rivets would do the trick, LOL! Try getting out of it without a file or a hacksaw!
Yikes!
Still, a VERY cool helmet. Now for a nice pair of really long wheellock pistols to go with it...

LOL! Well, Bill, indeed they would! Funny thing, after you posted the info on the helmet I of COURSE made a bee-line for it, and drooled all over the sword and little hunting rifle! So yes, they'll definitely do!
I still want a pair of long wheellock pistols, of course.
Cheers,
Gordon

Bill;
I've already left my drool-marks on that one! Those guys ought to serve towels with those links...
What's cool is how much like a figure-8 cutlass that guard is! Hard to keep a good design down, I guess...
Cheers!
