We didn't have much to post here lately other than our standard products. But while we were working on those and some
custom commissions, we had a little pet project that we felt some might find interesting.
For quite some time, we wanted to make something that's more closely related to Landsknechts than our current models, but we are still way too deep in love with Messers to make much of anything else for a while. The obvious solution to this problem is taking a Kriegsmesser from a woodcut showing these well-dressed gentlemen and making that.
Thrice.
Meet the M5A "Ahren" Kriegsmesser. The three pieces are very close together as far a size is concerned, the largest visible difference is that one has a straight Nagel with 5 fullers while the other two's Nagels are curved to varying degrees and sport 6 fullers each.
Grips are affixed by wooden pegs and are covered with vegetable-tanned goat leather, ebonized with iron acetate. One of the three has a hidden tang under the leather, while the other two has full-width tangs.
Finials on the quillons are made from hollow brass spheres with the steel peened over them on the outside.
Blade length: 835mm
Total length: 1175mm
Weight: ~1600 g
PoB: ~155mm
All three are in stock and are available at 1200 EUR+ shipping/piece.
We thoroughly enjoyed making these, so if there's enough demand, we'd be more than willing to make these into a production model.
