Are anyone familiar with the Austrian Herold Peter Suchenwirt and his arms- and heraldic poetry (Heroldsdichtung)? And does it have any value for students of armour?
While browsing the german digital dictionary project for medieval instances of the word stahlhaube (steel cap), I stumbled upon a reference to his work published in A. Primisser 1827, Peter Suchenwirt's Werke aus dem vierzehnten Jahrhunderte: ein Beytrag zur Zeit- und Sittengeschichte. The full text transcript over at Internet Archive is rather broken but there's a dictionary in the back.
"Haube" - translated as Sturmhaube, infantry helmet. I don't know if kettle hat or bascinet is ment, but two instances are presented:
IX "Von Herrn Puppli von Ellerbach dem Jungen. (erste rede) p 29
(line 198): Do er sechshundert hauben
(line 199): Ubervil und tet den chunt,
(line 200): Daz maniger ward mit schaden munt,
XIV "Von Herrn Friderich dem Chreuzpeckh" pp 43:
(line 62): Der komen wol tzwelf hundert
(line 63): Hauben durch der wirde schaw
