Dear fencers,
For the third year in a row, Martinez Academy of Arms and the Humboldt State University Fencing Club will host the world’s only week long camp for serious students of historical rapier fencing.

This year there will be two levels of instruction running concurrently. Level I will serve as an introduction to the art for those with no previous fencing experience. Level II will be tailored to experienced rapier fencers providing them the opportunity to hone their skills and improve their understanding of the concepts, techniques, tactics and theory of either the Italian or Spanish schools of 17th century rapier fencing.

From June 12th through the 18th, Maestri Ramon Martinez and Jeannette Acosta- Martinez will teach participants in amongst the Victorian architecture of the little town of Arcata situated in the redwood forests of Northern California. Joining the Maestri this year is rapier instructor Jared Kirby. There will be hands-on training from Monday through Friday, plus lectures and question-and-answer sessions after dinner each evening. Participants will attend lectures on a number of topics related to rapier fencing, including:
* Characteristics of the rapier, and how to identify a properly constructed weapon
* Fundamental theory of rapier fence underlying both schools
* Time, Distance and Proportion
* Tactics and strategy
* How to fence against someone practicing another style of fencing

The focus of this camp will be to teach all participants fundamental rapier skills in a safe and friendly learning environment.

Housing
Participants will stay in the Humboldt State University dormitories with fellow participants. The Humboldt State University cafeteria will provide meals. Room and board is included in the price of the seminar.

Travel
Humboldt State University is located in the town of Arcata, on the Northern coast of California; about 5 hours drive north of San Francisco. The Arcata/Eureka Airport (ACV) offers flights to and from San Francisco and Portland. Bus or taxi service from the Airport to Arcata takes about 15 minutes.
