I recently won this at auction, and according to Jean Lhostes' Les Epees (pp305-308) it's French and either First Empire or Restoration.

But I've also found a few previous sales and collections that claimed it was a German smallsword, one even going so far as it say it was Naval.

Anyway, for the moment I am trusting the printed word of Jean Lhoste, but was wondering if anyone had access to the source that claims it is German, or knows why there's such a conflicting ID on this item.
