Keeper of Armour and Edged Weapons

Salary: Up to £33,942 per annum, based in Leeds

The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the development and study of our internationally recognised collection. With overall responsibility for the armour and edged weapons components of the collection you will lead on developing a research programme in this area, oversee its management and contribute ideas and expertise in support of the museum’s public programme and improvements to its displays. The post holder will be assisted by two specialist curators.

You will be educated to at least degree level with demonstrable expertise in the history of armour and edged weapons and have a substantial research and publication record in this area. With extensive previous management experience in a Collections environment, you will also be comfortable leading teams, devising strategic plans and delivering on agreed objectives.

This is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week 5 days out of 7. Weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working may be required.
