Does anyone here have a pattern for making a 'Pembridge-style' great helm? Or, am I just gonna have to wing it with cardboard until I get it right, then transfer it to steel? Thoughts? .............McM

Dunno what searches you did, but I put in "Pembridge great helm pattern" and came up with some links and tutorials. May not be the precise helm you want, but might give you a good starting point.

And, yeah, even with the patterns, doing in cardboard or butcher paper first, then applying to steel might be a good idea. :) Good luck!

Thanks for the links, Victor. I'll check them out later. Got an appointment soon, so.....And, yes, I wouldn't dare try it without something in paper...at least a rough pattern. McM

Nickolas Dupras's thesis also contains detailed information and photographs of the Pembridge helm and the nearly identical Royal Armouries helm.

Yup.....that's EXACTLY what I want to try to make. I may have to go with thinner gauge steel than what I have....it's at least 10 gauge, maybe 12. I figure I'll go with 14-16. A 10 gauge helm of this size would probably weigh about 12 pounds and that's without padding. I don't want to be in a neck brace the rest of my life! Thanks fellas....I'm pooped...beddy-bye time soon....McM

Thanks to everyone. I believe I have a pretty firm foundation now. If my camera will work like it ought to, I'll try to get some WIP pics. I've decided to go with a slightly different approach, and style from my original plan. I think it'll work though. Thank you all again!...............McM
