Mr. Delongis is holding a seminar in Radford.Va this week-end (about 45 min.drive for me). I'm breifly familiar with his stuff (ie Cold Steel dvd ) and know that his is mainly a film / tv fight choreographer. At $100 a pop for the seminar, was just wonder if it is worth the effort to attend.

Hey Bill,
I'd go if I was that close. I've always been a fan Mr. DeLongis' work, he's a multi-talented guy. I think it would be a good, if not fun experience.

Mr. Delongis has also been working with the Martinez's in creating the great instructional videos on the Italian & Spanish rapier.

Man, I wish I'd known about this earlier! Radford's a couple hours from me, but certainly doable. As it is, even if registration were still open, I'm booked the whole weekend anyway.
What was the seminar on? Mr. DeLongis, from what I understand, is a very good teacher. I like his stage combat methodology, and he did a bullwhip class at the last WMAW that was hugely popular. (well, popular with those who were in it... those of us in the classes next to him, divided only by a curtain, found it a little trying to try to talk/listen to our own class with all of the constant gun-shot sounding whip cracks. Those things are LOUD.)

Hey Bill,
Yeah, i just found out about it today myself. From the info. I had faxed to me it says..."will demonstrate weapon and empty hand attacks, defenses, traps and disarms. He will also show how real world techniques can be transfered into movie fight sequences. If you have practice kives, swords and kali sticks bring them..."
One day , in the near future, I'm gonna have to meet up with you since we are not too awfully far apart.

Sounds like he was doing a stage combat workshop, and even though I don't do any stage combat anymore, it still probably would have been more than worth it. The guys who are really good at integrating realistic combat into stage can often teach certain manuevers in a way that the pure martial arts guys don't always think of.
Brad Waller is a perfect example of this. Brad teaches stage combat, and uses period manuscripts (Marrozzo being his forte, I believe) to make the combat have a more realistic feel. While stage and real life are different, and the techniques themselves are often far apart, humans still only move in certain ways. Brad has a fantastic methodology for teaching footwork and body mechanic that focus on balance and hip relationship to the opponent, and this is something that the manuscripts don't explicitly outline. Having taken classes from Brad has TREMENDOUSLY broadened my understanding of martial arts in general.
Which is why I'm bummed about missing the DeLongis seminar. I'd bet Anthony can show me a thing or three.

Yeah, definately! Isn't Winchester in between us? If so, we should kidnap Jason Elrod: More swords to play with!
