I just received some pictures of the Ultuna sword from Vince Evans. It is entirely engraved, not cast, with an antler grip and gilded. I believe this to be Vince's best work. Even the fittings on the scabbard are engraved. The Ultuna sword is the second Vendel era sword I have received from Vince and he has done me proud. It is now off to a professional photographer for some pictures. Hope you all enjoy seeing this.

I should also add that the blade is a six-bar pattern welded sword. The six bars were forged together then cut lengthwise, so really it is twelve bars plus a steel edge forged on. The original Ultuna sword did not have a blade left, so we decided to go for this incredible forging triumph.

For those who don't know of this sword, it is from Ultuna, Sweden and is from the 7th Cent., the so-called Vendel era. Here are a few pictures of the original.

Thanks Jerry and Paul for your comments. I agree I am a lucky sod. I owe it all to Mr. Vince Evans, a master swordsmith. Hope to see more comments in the future.

Speaking of the real sword, it was unearthed from a grave at Ultuna in Uppsala County, Sweden, hence its name.

Vince never ceases to amaze.... as always, just when you think he's at the top of his game, he does something even more amazing. Those of us who have been blessed to be caretakers of some of Vince's creations are most fortunate, indeed. And he's a real nice guy, too.
