A Burgundian Dagger of late XVth century style, with the typical octagonal roundels.
The single-edged 1075 carbon steel blade is etched with the saltire-and-briquet emblem of Burgundy and sports a reinforced point of strong diamond section.
The grip and roundels are dark brown horn, with a decorative brass strap directly inspired (both in aspect and making process) from the A48 of the Viennese Armouries that I had the chance to study a few years ago.
The vegetable-tanned, iron-oxyde dyed leather scabbard is hand-carved with a latin motto and rinceaux.
Can't provide dimensions, as this item is all packed and about to leave me...
That is one beautiful piece of work. I love how the reinforced point is contrasts with the rest of the blade. Was it ground or hammered to be that way?One of the most horrible features of war is that all the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting.
