For a very early 14th/late 13th century armor, I was considering adding arm armor armor that is pretty much jack chains. I seem to remember seeing something similar in early plate armors. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

sort of, but I was looking to do a defense on the outside of the arm, rather than the back.

That's just how the artist has represented it.
It protects the outside of the arm for sure and certain.

I know, but I was thinking of not doing an elbow cop, just a roundel for the elbow, with two steel plates tied to the maille to proctect the upper and lower arms

Sounds to me like you've already decided what you're gonna do, and are looking for support...

...Seems like the wrong way to go about it to me. Start with the sources, then draw a conclusion, not start with a conclusion then go looking for sources.
