I wonder if anyone can help me in identifying this weapon. I dug it up in my back garden in Buckinghamshire, UK, 30+ years ago as a child. I have never shown it to anyone (it's been tucked away in the loft) but I am now fascinated to know more about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Suggestions have been a bayonet, a French trench dagger, a german hunting sword or possibly a naval weapon. Does anyone recognise the style to point me in the right direction? The second photo is against an A4 sheet to give a perspective of size.
Thanks
Carrie B

Looks like some kinda trench knife. Many were "custom made" on the battlefield from captured or broken blades.

Talking to my family about my endeavours to identify this weapon, my mum has come up with a gem of information. Many, many years ago, at the house where I dug up this weapon, she found some old photographs of soldiers down the back of an old fireplace. She is now on a mission to find them in her attic and let's see if this weapon matches those soldiers... very interesting!
