I'm not sure if this is the correct spot for this post, so if it needs to be moved I apologize for the inconvenience.
As some of you may know, I am the current president of the White Oak Historical Society located in Deer River, Minnesota. Every year we sponsor and host several events, dinners, educational workshops, community education programs and so forth. This is the second year of our Medieval/Viking Fall Camp which is taking place in October. Here is a bit about the event that I have posted on facebook, etc...
Medieval/Viking Fall Camp is coming up on October 19-21. This is a public event and one that we are trying to develop into a larger presentation. The Fall camp is a little more relaxed and laid back; the cooler weather and no bugs is a great boon and makes pulling out the cloaks and having a warm fire more worthwhile. We put more emphasis on educational workshops and demos. Anyone interested in attending please let me know as soon as you are able. Camp fees are minimal ($15), showers, firewood, and water are available, and a good time will be had by all. We'll have a axe throwing competition, spear throwing competition, and maybe even an archery competition if we can get enough people with bows. A big 15th century pottage feed on Saturday, medieval dances, and a period talent contest! Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission fees for the public are just $3 for adults, children 10 and under are free. Blacksmithing, soldier drill and tactics, weapons and armour display, period craft demonstrations and more.
The White Oak Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to education through the living history medium. I have been with the Society for 20 years and it is near and dear to my heart. We are entirely volunteer run. We have an 80 acre site, a re-creation of a late 18th century Northwest Company fur post, a tavern, a modern great hall and office, and lots of space. If anyone is interested in attending this or any of our other events please let me know for more information. You can find online at www.whiteoak.org
