Hiya!

These '13th C. knight's fittings' (as the description in the image says) have been found on a building site in the centre of Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Does anyone know what kind of fittings they are? I kinda like it and am thinking about reproducing it, but I have to know what they were used for first...

This is what the archaeological report says:

'Insignia or fitting made of copper in the form of a
mounted knight. The item was found at one of the
earliest houses on the dam in Rotterdam.
Date: last quarter 13th-first quarter 14th C.
Greatest length: 3.2 cm (1.26 in.)

The size suggests some sort of badge, but the absence of any identifiable heraldry speaks against it.

before reading this... I thought the design reminded me of Manesse Codex, so I guess it's perfectly fit for the period

Yeah, it kind of resembles the knight on the left on page 197v of the Manesse... Well, with squinted eyes, but still...
