I understand that, due to their length, many of the medieval "Great Swords" were not actually worn when on foot, but were mounted on the saddles of the knight's horse. Has anyone got any contempory illustrations of exactly how this was done ? I know we have lots of illustrations of how swords were worn on the waist, but I can't recall how they were fixed to a saddle ?
