|
|
I would like someone to make a wooden custom sword for me and I'm wondering if anyone knows anyone out there to do it. I'm not looking for a waster to practice with but a nice wooden wallhanger. I don't want anything too intricate but nothing too plain. Like I said I'm not planning on swinging this around but just hanging it on my wall. Thanks so much for anyones help!

Well if you only need it for walhanger, any carpenter worth the title should be able to make one that would look allright.

If it's just for display then the wooden blade can be sculpted very close to the thickness and distal taper of a steel blade but it would be much too fragile to use in training.
A using wood waster has to have thick edged to be durable and made of very good quality wood.
The best wooden ones seem to be made by Purpleheart:

Just bought two wooden longswords and two wooden greatswords from them through Kult of Athena and they are very well made and I have used the greatswords and the wood hardly shows any signs of impacts i.e. very high quality wood.
I don't know if they would accept to do a custom wooden sword but I'm sure the cost would be higher than a standard model.

I think the best wasters are made by New Stirling Arms of which I have several: a longsword, one-hander, cut & thrust, greatsword (claymore), and spada da due mani.
http://www.newstirlingarms.com/shop/
The are balanced the best. They are very durable. They feature complex construction that allow the cross to be much thinner than Purple Heart or Hollow Earth. They look like a sword much more than Purple Heart. They produce a wide range of sword forms. And they have excellent customer service and great delivery times for their most common products.
Sorry but as long as we are talking about wasters I like to get my vote in and support them as much as I can.
But if the original poster is wanting a wooden sword that just looks closely like a sword, then I would recommend showing a picture of a sword to a local carpenter or two and getting quotes.
Also, Raven Studios does custom wasters.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Thanks for the link. I like that engraved award rudis set they have. That might make a neat lil' gift idea for someone. I'll have to keep that in mind.
