Anyone know where I can get a good priced shield from in the UK? I only ask, I have found a couple but none come with a leather arm strap/carrying strap they look pretty basic.

Sorry for all the posts and thanks for your help. Happy

Hi,

Try here: http://www.shieldsandshoes.co.uk/Sands1.html

I bought one of his larger viking shields a few months ago. Not historicallly accurate as far as wood goes (I think he uses 12mm ply), but the raw-hide edging is good, the face is canvas-covered, and a guige is offered as an extra. He'll even paint it in your colours and/or design. Relatively cheap - I'm thinking of comissioning a smaller, buckler-sized shield off him in the near future.

Cheers,

Ant

Have you tried Viking Shield, LLC in Wisconsin? I don't know too much about them, but at least they're in the U.S. and their shipping costs only appear to be $15.00.

Interesting site ... Seems they carry most of the generic armour and weapons, as well as the good stuff by Volund Forge, Tinker, Albion and others!

Thats excellent Ant and he does kite shields also..I'll be keeping the link, cheers. As long as they hold up to heavy combat then we'll all be happy Big Grin motto: Never face an angry man with a huge axe, shields do nothing haha.

You're welcome Stu.
I'd have thought 12mm ply should see you safe, so long as the axe isn't that big...
I think I remember that his turnaround was quite quick too - 3 weeks from first enquiry to delivery. I'm also particularly interested in one of his kites (tear-drop or the later ones) as they look curved from his website and good value for £60-odd. Let us know what you get and any pics would be great! Big Grin

Cheers,

Ant
