The Philadelphia Museum of Art has acquired a complete horse armor of steel with etched and partially gilded and blued decoration, made in 1507 for Duke Ulrich of Württemberg by the Nuremberg armorer Wilhelm von Worms the Elder, and a man armor of steel decorated in the same technique, made circa 1505 by the Landshut armorer Matthes Deutsch.

The acquisition was made possible by a gift from Athena and Nicholas Karabots and The Karabots Foundation, 2009.

This equestrian ensemble will be on public view at the center of the Museum's main Kretzschmar von Kienbusch Gallery of Arms and Armor from October 22, 2009, at noon.

For more information, a press release and some images (visible by clicking the link at the top of the page) are available on the Museum's web site at: http://www.philamuseum.org/press/releases/2009/790.html.
