I understand what you say and it holds some logic but I really doubt you could do that with a good riveted mail. I also have butted mail I made for myself and it's good and quite resistant but far far from a good riveted mail. If a tip cut on a butted mail can open only a few rings you will make no effect at all on a riveted mail.
