Mike mentioned this to m several months ago. I thought that it was a good idea then, and I do now. I'd do it myself if I thought there was any significant interest in my geographical area.
These kinds of things are fun, but that really isn't the main benifit. Since last September Nathan and I have been telling people that Albion is breaking new ground in the production field. In order to really grasp this it's important to actually handle these swords. The subtle geometries involved in replicating these historic designs are much more apparent when the swords are in hand, pictures really don't convey these attributes. When these swords are handled it's obvious why the Next Gen. line is a step or two ahead of much of the competition.
If you can make it by all means do so. You won't regret it.

You said it. The Bladeshow was a real eye-opener for me. The pictures and stats have looked good all along, but they don't tell the whole story. Handling these swords is the best way to start to fully "get it," in my opinion.
There are a few "yes's" and more "maybe's" for attendance so far. I'm hoping to get even more people here so they can more fully experience this stuff.

I found a source for pool noodles where they're $1.50. Is that a fairly normal price? |
Was over at the Bass Pro near you last weekend and they were $1.49.
My better half says that is cheaper than she usually finds them. I'm going to check Odd Lots/Big Lots.

Yeah, I paid $1.49 for the pool noodles I got at a grocery store. I'm going to check out the local Big Lots, too. There are some dollar stores I may check out too.
I'm a total cutting novice. Do I need to rig a stand for these things? How do people usually do this kind of thing?

Chad,
I should be able to make it. July 31st so far is clear on my calendar so far. It's not next generation, but I'll bring my Migration Type D for those who might be interested. I also have 3 or 4 pool noodles I can bring.

Mark,
It sounds good. Glad you can make it. The event isn't all Next Gen, but there will be a lot of Next Gen represented. It'll be good to have the original Albion Mark stuff represented.

Our local Big Lots has them too for that price. I also found some at a dollar store for, well, a dollar....
I have 8 left after I chopped up a couple yesterday. I may pick up some more for the gathering.

Tried chopping some tonight,. I stuck the backyard up pretty good in the process. Going to have to do work a bit more at this and come up with a better mounting arrangement than my half hearted attempt this evening.

Hey folks,
Could those people who are attending or most likely attending please send me an email (click the  button below) and let me know you're coming? Also, if you're bringing any Albion swords with you, please let me know which one(s) so we can make sure that Albion doesn't send any duplicates.
I'll use this info to gauge which swords to ask for, how many pool noodles to have on hand, and know what kind of snacks to have around. I'll also use it to send out specific time information and maps/directions.

I have a length of that thick-walled cardboard carpet tubing. Is it worth trying to fit into the car, or is this stuff now seen as so abusive of a medium that no one will cut it?
Of course I know that the Albion loaner swords can not be used on it.

I'm actually not sure how abusive that would be. I probably wouldn't worry about stuffing it in the car, since we'll have about 50 milk jugs (Thanks, Matt!), and around that many noodles (thanks Mark and Joe!). That should keep us busy.

Hi Nathan,
The tube itself really isn't seen as abusive. Since they're made out of recycled paper they tend to have other junk, like staples and etc., inside them. This can result in a nicely scratched blade. I just wouldn't cut it with an expensive sword where I had concern for the finish.
