Hello,

I'm wondering about the durability of swords in terms of day-to-day wear. How well would a sword mounted in the traditional manner hold up to rain, moisture, and things of a similar nature? What would/could be done to preserve a sword if a individual were on the go and constantly exposed to the elements?

Thanks,

Nicholas

Hazarding a guess, but if said individual couldn't spare a moment of the day to give his weapon a little bit of care, I'd say it's days were reasonably numbered (and his, if he's one prone to find bother).

Richard: When the fall’s all that’s left, it matters a great deal.

Moisture causes rust in steel. To preserve it, you need to put some kind of barrier. A period example is hog fat.
