Does anyone have any information or pictures of the original warhammer that is the basis for Windlass Steelcrafts English Warhammer?
Their info states:
With the increasing sturdiness of plate armor, the sword became less and less effective against a fully armored knight. Hammers, axes and maces soon became the weapon of choice for hand-to-hand combat of the mounted knight. The war hammer quickly evolved and became one of the premier weapons. Generally it was lighter and faster than the mace and this example is no exception.
The English Warhammer is based on an original dating from about 1530 and features a carbon steel head secured to a hardwood shaft with a leather wrapped grip and a steel end cap.
Overall Length: 25 1/4''
Head width: 6 1/2''
Weight: 1 lb 9 oz
I saw today that Kult of Athena had theirs on sale for $59.95 and decided to treat myself for Christmas !
I'd love to see the original piece.
