A good friend just purchased a Cold Steel Talwar. It was discontinued (recently, supposedly). Do you guys know anything about it? Quality? I've heard that CS swords can be a little wonky as far as quality...

Not sure, but I think nobody less than Vince Evans had a couple of good things to say about that particular model. I believe there might still be a review over on SFI if do a search. Ofcourse, in my old age I may be making it all up... best to check up on me and see. Big Grin

I seriously considered buying one of the CS talwars, myself. I have an old tulwar that while the tip gets bent easily, was at one time a very nice piece. Certainly very comfortable to hold, though grip is at least a finger too tight for me. I used to consider seeing about a custom order of one but never did it.

I don't know for sure, but I think Therion Arms may have the Cold Steel Tulwar in stock. At least I think I saw one listed there... I'm still tempted, but the money isn't there, so....

Cold Steel "Tulwar" ... Review by Vince Evans

My first impression was that this is a really nice sword. The hilt is long
for a Tulwar, but that was intentional, due to the size of Western hands.
This sword is made in India, and I must say, the blade is very well ground.
The scabbard is black leather over wood with brass mounts, also nicely
done. After sitting in my shop for a few months, the leather developed a
tackiness.

Blade: 32" long
1 3/8 " wide
1/4 " thick with a distal taper
22" fuller

Brass Hilt: 6" long
4-1/2" gripping area

Pommel: 2-3/4" diameter

Cross Guard: 4"

Overall Length: 38"

Sword Weight: 2 lb. 11-3/4 oz.

POB: 6" from guard

I cut cardboard and dry juniper branches about 1" in diameter and noticed
no bending or edge damage. Although the sword feels heavy, it definitely
feels solid. I didn't notice any loosening of the hilt.
