I searched the board and did a little research on how to attach my 1796 Light cavalry Saber to a belt and I've looked up sword frogs and belts and all that stuff but I'm a bit cautious about buying one. Most attachments seem to cater either to medieval swords or rapiers, and I'm not sure about the quality of the different brands.

I also need something that loops between the two, well I'm not sure what to call them, I'm new at all this, but metal rings. Does anyone know of any good devices that would do a good job, but would also be historical, in securing my saber to a belt?

Here's what you need: http://www.born2late.co.uk/British-Cavalry-trooper-Equipment.html Sabre belts seem to be a technological constant. There's really not much difference, outside of decoration and snaps instead os stitches, between a 10th century Magyar saber belt and a WWI era American cavalry saber hanger.
