I can wholeheartedly recommend this knife: http://www.kellamknives.com/index.php?main_pa...cts_id=792
It is slightly shorter and handier than the old model which I have. The spine is 5 mm thick, still, because of the scandi grind, it can be sharpened to razor sharpness if you want. The older modell was sharp enough straight out of box, with couple of swipes with diamond sharpener and leather strop it shaved my arm hair with ease.
My son and I have used and abused it on several occasions, especially my son on his scouting trips. It is still going strong. Good sheath, sturdy construction, rust resistant coating, cuts well, easy to sharpen, non-slip rubber handle. What more can you want?

Yes, there is something to be said for cheap knives and the horrible truth is that there are some very good ones available. Ontario Knives are very inexpensive and pretty good quality for the price. The Mora knives are amazingly good knives and shockingly cheap. I have one in my truck's tool kit and wouldn't hesitate to buy more and just stash them wherever I think I might need such a knife, the kitchen. the garage, the shop.
I'm going to shamelessly plug my vendor of choice for Scandinavian knives ( including Mora knives) Ragweed Forge. He has a good no nonsense website and I have never had a problem with his service or the quality of his merchandise.
