Hi,as promised here are a few more pics of Thorn and info.

The blade itself was made by a very talented swordsmith who I'm sorry to say I'm not going to name. I don't in any way want to take credit for his work or not give hm credit where its richly due but he stated to me when he agreed to make the blade for me that he didnt want to get into the habit of making the blades for other peoples work nd this was a one off for me which I feel pretty houred about. Out of respect for this I'm not going to mention his name so he doesn't have to deal with e-mails from people who got here via search engines and don't read posts properly Wink But he is a member so he can make himself known if he wants. The rest is my work
The sword is 95cms long, the guard is 22 1/2 cms wide The pommel has a diameter of about 5 cms and its 5 1/2 cms deep. It has a silver collar which is made from a recycled silver perfume bottle as is the pommel nut. The pommel is made from reconsituted rock crystal (which is crystal made from the melted dust of raw rock crystal, a previous attempted at carving the pommel had failed partly due to the flawed nature of the natural state gem and naturally flawless crystal is prohibitively expensive for me) the collar is gilded on the inside as is the tang. The guard was ground from a cold steel throwing torpedo, never again lol .
The scabbard is wood cored with a oiled felt lineing, the cover is velvet sewn and then pulled over the core and the decorations are silver.
Hope you like Happy

Mr. Bird,

The blade is lovely, but your hilting work - including your use of materials - is truly inspired! Bravo. If there is more to your portfolio, please do share!

(edit: Oh, yeah. Found your previous posts. Great knotwork on that scabbard. Seach Engine works good, too...)

Every time I visit this website, new ideas creep into my lil' brain...

Hi B,
Very nice job on a not often seen hilt set up,
i know there are a few in museums but very few in the more modern market,
Well done in getting it all finished up and well done for taking on such a hilt project yourself,
far from easy and a pretty involving project,
you done real good Cool and compliment the blade very well. Wink

Thanks both of you Big Grin
I think Pavel Moc is about the only other person whos made a CPS relatively recently which is a mixed blessing. On one hand advice is a bit thin on the ground but on the other theres nobody to tell you your doing it wrong Razz Any idea which museums have examples Lee ? Image searches tend to bring this place up a lot.

Apologies, Ms. Bird! I meant no offence! And thank you, erm... Lee. Can I call you Lee? Too many years in academia and too many Jane Austen movies, and my attempt to be polite has inadvertently revealed a bit of prejudice on my part, assuming another's gender based on an interest in sharp, pointy, dangerous things. In my defense, I'll say that the only female-type person in my daily life who will talk with me about swords is my four-year-old girl, who thinks that they are only used against dragons. Again, sorry about that.

Fantastic. I love the pommel, but the sword as whole generally rocks.

Thank you all for the kind words Happy
Eric, please dont worry about it, there are few enough women into this hobby and even fewer of us get into the building side of things.
Lee, thanks Happy
