|
|
Hello,
I am new to these forums and this is my first post. I apologize if this on the site somewhere and I missed it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any museums in Barcelona and Madrid that have nice collections of arms and armour(along the lines of the Met, Royal Armouries, Wallace Collection etc. etc.)? I am taking an Art History course
in Spain shortly and I'll have a week to explore those two cities. I haven'thad any luck finding any such museums in my searches.
Also since I am asking about museums. Is there a comprehensive list available for museums around the world that have decent arms and armour collections?
Thank you for your time,
Thomas

Thomas,
Hello and welcome to myArmoury.com. Be sure to check out the Real Armeria if you're in Spain. They have many of Charles V's armours and much more, I'm sure.
Also, our links page has a list of many museums and our Features Page has a growing series of Museum Visit articles.

Thomas,
It is so long ago that I went to Spain that I hoped others with more up to date knowledge would respond to your request. I remember there were collections in the royal palace in Madrid and that one of them was arms and armor. I would be very surprised if you were unable to find what you are seeking, If I may be allowed a piece of advice; wear comfortable shoes!
Enjoy your trip,
Ken Speed

The Real Armeria houses the second greatest collection of princely armour on the planet (first is Vienna, especially if you throw in the Historisches Museum der Stadt Wien). Barcellona has some stuff too, but I'm not as familiar with it.

Hello,
Thank you all for the warm welcome and the replies. I will put the information to good use. If I "discover" anything on my trip I will share it here when I come back.
Thanks again,
Thomas
