I am pretty new to carving and wanted to break away and do something non Celtic. An SCA buddy wanted some heraldry for his shield and I started carving these. I know they are not great, but still fun to do. The border is not quite right and I had some issues with the Dragon background. Im going to try again and make a Heater shaped shield as the border, maybe they will turn out better.
They are approx 7.5 inches tall.

I'd say those look great for an early generation attempt at a new skill. What genre.are they (generic medieval?)
I always think in terms of wood when one says "carving." What is this material and method?

Jared,
They were taken from a 16th century shield, or so I was told. I carved them from wax. They are copper with silver plating. I am re-doing them so hopefully they will look more symmetrical.
Its harder for me than I thought to bring out character in a semi flat object, good for practicing.

We decided the only way to make this right was for me to spend retarded amounts of time cutting out the evil little creatures. I am glad I wont have to do that again any time soon. They did get a much different look. I have one more Tyger to finish and Its a done deal. I hope the end result turns out like the picture in my brain.

I think you have done a wonderful job and given them some character all of your own, keep it up!
They have that nice feel about them if you know what I mean.
