For what I know the longsword started out as a knightly weapon.
The reason that it was long was to get reach from horseback.
The weapon then evolved during the years.
What I know Döbringer wrote his book in about 1389, that puts Liechtenauer in about 1350.
I have had trouble finding sources on this subject.
My questions I want help with is:
When did the longsword first appear?
What was it used for during the years and when did it change? (Battlefieldweapon, civilianweapon etc.)
I also would like to know more of the longsword and it´s use compared to other twohanded sword.
Whats the differnce in use both technically and tactically compared to:
The Claymore
The reneissanse twohander (Flammenschert, flamberg etc)
Early greatsword.
