Very cool kit David. 
You seems to be wearing some kind of leather vest or gambeson under the mail, am I right ? I'm curious to know how it's constructed.

Lovely. Very nice. I have a kit of the same period, but not nearly as nice as that one. But i´m supposed to be a väring, not a chieftain like you. The skin seems a bit off thou. The helmet is i chieftain helmet, would look nice with a big cape.
Where are you from? My group is hosting a big vendel period arrangement next summer. We have a complete vendel period village that we use. If you are in Sweden, you should visit.

I belive that is West Stowe, england. And I think its Paul M on the picture. Our friend Ade will have info on that. Contact is made;)!

That's beautiful- almost magical. Very intimidating. How about a look at your scabbard.
Great, great, great helm,
What kind of maille do you use- I would assume this is the most inauthentic component of your kit. I will not consider wearing reproduction maille as it exists right now. But really from a distance your maille is very nice.

Thanks, I wouldn't call it a gambeson Hugo, it is not padded as such. More of an 'arming' shirt if you like. There is very little evidence for either a gambeson or arming coat being worn in this period.
The coat is basically an interpretation of the Viborg shirt in leather,it does give some added protection to the body and certainly helps keeps the under clothing clean from oil and rust.

Thanks Jeroen. The sword is a migration period monobladed spatha,with a horn gip and guards made by Mark from Saint George Armoury here in the U.K. and the pommel garniture is by Dave Roper. I'll post images of the sword at another time.

Thanks for your comments Anders, I live in Yorkshire in the U.K. and would love to visit your period village in the future.
Our small group also does Viking Age re-enactment and I'll post some images if folk would like. By the way check out a small video we did on You Tube if you type in Jorik Vikingr it should come up. Perhaps youcould share some images of your kit o this site.

It would be great fun If you could visit us. We are planning a big vendel meeting with some battles next summer. We will try to recreate a possible scenario. The power of the times shifted. At first the Chieftain was seated in Högom. But after some powerstruggles the power was shifted to Uppsala. In the archeological researach of the area where the village (Gene fornby) is seated they have found a big burnt down smithy. Perhaps evidence of the struggle.
I´ve tried to attach some pics. It´s of me and Martin fighting in the village.

Thanks for the generous comments Patrik, although the praise should be heaped on Ivor Lawton who made the helm.
I commissioned the helm in the early '90's from Ivor who I had the great fortune to be friendly with . The commision involved making the individual masters for the plate dies, and the crest and brows. The production of the plates and final tinning etc. This would the first of a small number that Ivor produced, and seems to turn up on the net and in various books from the original photos that he took for reference. I borrowed the helm to a friend, Ben Levick of Angelcyn for a BBC film shoot and subsequently it turned up on his groups photos, another friend who authored a title on Viking arms and armour confusingly used an image of the helm as his own in the title after he subsequently commissioned Ivor to make another vendel helm.
I'm rubbish at keeping any photos of my self in kit, but will provide images of other items that he made me for me over the years, Ivor is a great craftsman, quite and unassuming and his work deserves exposure and credit.
