Hi all - I did a search for leather scabbards, but didn't come up with the info I wanted, so here goes...

I'm simply wondering if the simple leather scabbard was used in the second half of the fourteenth century. I know most representations I see are wood-cored and leather covered, but I kind of lack the skills in woodworking to make one ( not to mention the patience!) That, and I've got some leather lying around I could use (veg-tan, of course!) I was thinking of doing a single-seam wrap-around scabbard. Your thoughts are welcome!

it really is not as hard as you think. a dremal or angle grinder can speed up the process but you have to be carful. give it a try, you never know.

i don't recall any references to all leather scabbards

I have a pic and description of a leather scabbard from the Victoria and Albert Museum. Sorry the pic is so dark. The info is in this thread: http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t...p;start=10

(It's late 15th century, BTW).
