John Hamilton's The Ames Sword Company1829-1935

Ebay 300532060396

A second edition and it looks like a crispy. I should maybe have waited but had found a worn first edition for a decent price. These are getting scarce to find at any price. I would grab it as a spare but figure someone here looking might wan to make it their own. (the seller has some older machetes as well)

Cheers

An interesting sword at a good price. A good sword for a good price. Kind of a deal of the week special that won't last.

A very nice looking replica of one of the Qianlong swords: http://cgi.ebay.com/330558107089

It's a replica of one of the many swords the Qianlong Emperor (who ruled China for most of the 18th century) had made (about 240 special swords). I think this is a very nice replica, though a little gaudy for my tastes. 'Tis a pity about the price tag, but I've seen similar advertised for a similar price of 1,100,000 Russian roubles. Cheaper than the originals; one of the Qianlong swords sold for over $5,000,000 at auction.

Well, it lasted until I adopted it last week. A fun piece.

Here is an excellent opportunity for someone interested starting with antiques. A late 19th century American Ancient Honorable Artillery Company sabre. I don't post a lot of links to auctions unless I would rather see it stay in an extended family of enthusiasts and collectives such as myArmoury.

Wow! That will teach me for taking the conservative option and just buying mine at his retail price. Still, his donation of a portion of the proceeds to the authors is ... a long time coming, and a very good thing.

A decent book featuring Medieval swords from the Arms Collection of the Croatian History Museum in Zagreb:

http://cgi.ebay.com/SWORDS-MIDDLE-AGES-CROATI...27bade23c3

I just bought one, well worth the money. The book uses the Oakeshott Typology and highlights blade inscriptions and X-ray analysis when available. The book states that the printing was limited to 500 copies.

You'll note that within that book are references for literature and other things. Within it are citations to myArmoury.com. I just randomly discovered that little tidbit today as I was reading it. Articles by Chad Arnow, Sean Flynt, Bill Grandy, Patrick Kelly, and myself are cited... perhaps others. (I find this funny and odd, by the way...)

I can state that the item arrived to me safe and sound from the seller, although it did take about 6 weeks to reach my door.

Thanks for the lead ... I almost pounced on it, until I realised that the seller has it for double the price the museum sells it for! Eek!

I know the guy who sells this, I bought one similar catalog from him. I will go to the museum to see if they still have these books and if somebody wants one, I can send it for it's original museum price plus shipping.

Hi Luka,

That's a great offer! I'd love one. I'm sure we could make a separate general post to see who else is interested ...

Thank you!
