Eek, why is the blade brown? I'd steer clear of this one, I'm afraid. My impression is that winged spearheads are a little early for c. 1066, anyway. You'd be better off with a plain steel one, not too big, with a straight-tapered blade. Not sure where to get a good one, though, it's been too long since I shopped for one! Arms and Armor should be a good place to start, though. The world DOES need more good spears!

Good luck!

I have the Hanwei short leaf-bladed spear, which I mounted on an octagonal ipe wood shaft purchased from an ebay dealer. Mounted and pinned this little spear head is actually very handy and strong enough to take thrusts through plywood and fence slats with ease, considering it cost next to nothing I am very happy with it. I could do without the patina on the head, however it doesn't seem to make much of a difference in terms of performance. I know the Hanwei heads are not nearly as nice as Arms and Armor offerings, but I actually feel pretty good about it. The metal seems a tad soft, against any steel or iron targets it will take a ding or two, but hey it's a spear and not a sword so I'm not too worried about banging it up at all.

I own most of the hanwei spears and have done terrible things to them piercing metal and wood and so serious injuries to them yet. I think the new color is sad but such is life,
