I'm in the process of constructing a historically accurate suit of practise armour that would be appropriate for late 16th century English backsword play with both blunts and wasters. Is anything known about the construction, materials etc. of such armour?

Hey Rabbe, right now I'm in the process of building one of the good people here a late 15th C. german breast and back for close to the same purpose. I would go with an armourer who works in spring steel and has a very personable customer to shop relationship. The only other armourer I know of who does realy amazing work is hedgecock from historical enterprises. If you have any specific questions about style, turn-around time and price shoot him an email from his website or you can contact myself. For references of my work you can contact Bill Grandy; who is a member here, Jehan DePelham and Irish from the Armour Archive message boards also have had work done by me. There are others, but their real names escape me at 1:10A.M.  Happy hunting, and make sure you get all your questions answered before you go with ANY armourer. Don't settle for a good fit... it has to be dead on.

Thanks. However, what I'm looking for is more among the lines of leather or gambeson (ie. something more appropriate for "unarmored" fencing systems) *but* I've been considering a full harness as well. Unfortunately my current financial situation does not really allow for such... But hey, thanks anyway!
