Dear Members,

Some time ago I conducted a survey to determine the level of interest in publication of my research on armour design in England during the fifteenth century. I received a huge number of expressions of interest, which was profoundly encouraging and for which I'm very grateful. Those numbers helped me a lot in my efforts to secure a publisher.

Now, after fifteen years of work, it is really happening. I have a publisher, production is well underway, design is nearly complete and Book I (1400-50) is coming out later this year.

And as of today, the pre-order is open! Pre-ordering is important because the print-run will not be enormous.

To pre-order just visit the publisher's webpage!

Hi Tobias,

Having fun parading along Richard III's coffin? :)

I will order the book for sure, however the pre order button on thomas del mar site does not work.

It links to the following email address: enquiries@thomasdelmar.com so I guess all there is to do is request a copy by email (a bit confusing and worth mentioning...)

Thanks for your hard work, and looking forward to read it!

Cheers,

J

I just sent an email to the address listed and requested my copy ... Great news !
Just how cool was it to be escorting Richard`s coffin in full armor ?

I am in Toby. Very excited to see this. I am going to let the libraries at the institutions I work at know as well. Usually they send around book requests as well.

Glad to see this coming out.

I've had to cancel my preorder. There is a £5 discount for preordering but a £6 bank fee for making an overseas direct deposit plus an even more exhorbitant fee from my own bank. I would be better waiting for the book to come on the general market and buying it from someone who accepts Paypal.

Hi All,

Thanks so much! Sorry about the hiccups... I'll relay comments to the publisher. Maybe he can get Paypal integrated into all this somehow.

Yeah, the Leicester reburial was really something. Its hard to describe the atmosphere. Weird to be in the middle of 70,000 people downtown in a modern city and hear so little noise.

Thanks for the advance notice. Just out of interest, if this is 1400-50 in book 1, what can we expect in subsequent books...?

The events in Leicester were fascinating to follow; it must have be quite something to be part of all that.

Hi Bruce,

Book II is 1450-1500. If there is still a need after that for a Book III, that would probably focus on foreign armour in England, most importantly, Italian imports. But that depends very much on how Book II takes shape in the final revision, which I'll be working on in the autumn.

Best,

T

I have sent an e-mail the last Friday to the publisher.

Probably I will receive the reply today, and I look forward to order the other 2 books.

Emailed Thos. Del Mar with all my details. The book any has to travel across Londinium though so shipping shouldn't be a major issue; in fact, given a time to call, I could pop in and pick it up myself! :D

As soon as they get back to me with an invoice I'll pay and place the order.

Very much looking forward to the full series...! ;)

Hi Guys,

Just a quick update- I signed off the final printer's proofs last week, and printing has now started. It'll take two weeks to print the whole run, and then another two weeks to bind, so release will occur in the middle of September! Pre-orders will be the first ones out.

I had a bit of a binge and bought 3 of your books this morning. Very excited for receiving them! Do you have any intentions of writing a book about mail?

Collector of original 16th-17th century European arms and armour. Would like to collect earlier, but budget doesn't allow- yet!
