I recently finished up a few daggers that have been on the bench for awhile. One is a dagger that doesnt follow any particular historical example. It was something that had been living in my head for awhile as a possible off hand for a transitional rapier or side sword. I darkened the pommel to match the forge finished hilt. All the steel is forged to shape then sculpted on a grinder. 5160 blade. The handle was a shape that I had wanted to play with for awhile. I had done the lower grip of a longsword like this years ago, but never something with that much taper change. I particularly like the subtle ridges on the handle which is antiqued Tiger Striped Maple. The name I gave this piece was Dark Sibling.

The second piece is a rondel. I had wanted to try this compound grind for awhile after seeing an example in a museum booklet and this is my first go at it. It has a sharp cutting edge 2/3 of the length of the blade that transitions into a piercing diamond grind at the point. The rondels are fluted with Wenge wood sandwiched between them. The handle in also antiqued Tiger Striped Maple with twisted steel wire between the flutes. The blade is hand forged 5160 as well. I blued the blade then gave it a light hand scrub to give it a soft antiqued look.
Both of these pieces are currently for sale and on sale at highly discounted pricing. Thank you for looking. I highly enjoyed these two projects. After finishing big projects or even video projects, I love to make something like this or forging some blacksmithing hammers. I like to think of them as refresher pieces to clear out the stress of a long commission. I just start forging and clearly a design out of my head that has been there for awhile. Usually nothing too fancy. Nothing mind blowing. Just some shapes that I have wanted to play with and I tend to return to these shapes down the road and try to refine them into a full blown custom.
If anyone would like stats on these I can take measurements when I get back to the shop, or direct you to some short videos of me holding them as a size reference.
