Does anyone know the date range of the effigy of William Marshal? I know the dates of his life and death, but I’m wondering if anyone can confirm that his effigy is contemporary to him, and not a later replacement or restoration.

If you look at the V&A catalogue listing for their cast (as pictured - the original suffered a bit in WWII) they date it to the third quarter of the 13th century.
Add : Philip J. Lankester : The thirteenth-century military effigies in the Temple Church in Robin Griffith-Jones and David Park. : The Temple Church in London : history, architecture, art 2010 seems a more up to date analysis. He seems to come down on a date around 1220-1240.

That would make it roughly contemporary with his death in 1219, if the earlier dates are correct. There was enough change from 1219 to 1240-1250 for certain details to no longer be up to date, but that is wonderfully specific. Thank you very much!
