I know this is a fantasy sword, but I'm curious about the hilt construction and the terminology that would go with it. (I'm not as sword savvy as I would like) I'm specifically curious about the block just under the guard, is there a specific term for something like that, also the guard extension on the blade, would that be considered exaggerated langets?

looks like I messed up on the pic, sorry it's too small, if you do an image search for winter warriors on yahoo you will get a thumbnail that you can enlarge for better viewing, again sorry it did not come out larger.

Just a part of the guard. It looks like the designer of the sword had juxtaposed a taijijian's guard with an European(ish) crossguard, and I must admit that the result looks rather cringe-worthy to me--there'd be way too much weight in the hilt this way and God knows how the swordsmith is going to redress the balance.
