Few more pics of me wearin' it
Also some pics of my armour/helmet/sword I made 20+ yrs back now...was long before youtube 'how to make armour step by step ' vids etc. I made the Rambo-style knife & took it to highschool to show a mate, & it was swiftly taken away by a teacher. At the time I was asking to make a Sword in Metalwork, and after seeing my knife the Metalshop teacher allowed me to do it - Probably the last kid allowed to do such a thing. this was back in the 1990's. - It's basically a 7kg lump of steel, not tempered or anything...I was inspired at the time by the Highlander/Ladyhawk movie swords. One day I'II clean it up & finish it off properly..

Still relating to Sallets, but Bevors - Why/What is it - that makes some bevor/sallet combos look *really* good - see first pic as an example...
vs the 2 pic, where they look pretty terrible..like a frog with it's throat puffed out.

I found this site interesting, shows what I mean about Sallet/Bevor combos/proportions. This guy is abit like myself as far as he knows the look he's after, it's interesting how after gavering so much info the end result - sallet-wise - looks very little like what he actually shows in all his research pics..

Hi Mike,
Good to see the pics of you wearing the sallet - and great that it turned out so well!
For look and fit of bevors, my guess is that they're an underrated piece of armour in terms of the difficulty of build - they need to be made in conjunction with the sallet, so that you have a good range of motion ... it's tricky, as they need to ride fairly far back so that you can turn your head and not have the sallet catch on the bevor, but not be so far back as to crunch your nose if you take a hit.
The rest of your armour - and arming garments - need to also be taken into consideration, as this will dictate the dimensions, angle it sits at, and where and when it is strapped and possibly attached to the breastplate.
So often, it seems that bevors are not built as part of a sallet commission, are sometimes added as an afterthought, or are sourced from cheaper suppliers as some kind of 'one size fits none' aftermarket addition. I'm keen to see them produced more, with the kind of planning and design that goes into other parts of harness.

Yeah it's something I should have studied more really. My Bevor actually fits well, other than the large plate part that I believe is meant to mount to the top of a breast plate. Obviously Mac couldn't shape that part to fit me perfectly...alittle tempted to remove it so the bevor can fit a lot closer to my neck & not sit on my chest. I need to play around with the fitment of it abit more. I *really* like the look of this one I have to say.
