I'll have to see what Lynn makes down the road, I do owe a knife from her to give to my wife...I should do a Dawson Family photo shoot of the knives I own and post it up sometime Nothing in line from Vince yet, maybe some shop time with him when I go up for a class from Nicholas Marcelja but Vince said he will not hold my hand
2 more goodies that I picked up from Vegas....
A beauty from Tinker

To answer the question posed on the last page: I don't have the foggiest idea where the blade on my Antiqued basket came from. However, it does look like a shortened antique in the photos.
Sigh. I'm going to have to move back to the Western Hemisphere one of these days just so I can get to these shows!

Here is something rare...a Wooly Rhinoceros, as the ice melts in Antarctic Circle leaving these rare bones out in the open, bone snatchers (as I call them) are there to grab them up and sell them on the market

Here are 2 different types of Mokume, these were taken on the 1st day, on the last day very few were left so my wife picked out a nice one, I paid then yesterday it was given to a ring maker for a matched set of rings for us, pretty hard stuff to photograph!

It's nice to see photography accepted there... (and good photography taken at that!)
When I went to the RTDA (retail tobacco dealer of america [or association... ]) show, I started taking shots of the whole room, but when I asked if it would be ok to take shots at some of the booths I was told "you think I want everyone stealing my designs?!?" [among other remarks]
wish I could have gone to the blade show though... looks like a great time.
At least I was able to waste a lot of film on the strip though...
I also learned that a trip to Las Vegas is not a good time to break in new shoes... (heat + new shoes= whole foot blisters! )
Was it mostly knife makers or was there a little bit of everything?
The pen is mightier than the sword, especially since it can get past security and be stabbed it into a jugular.
This site would be better if everytime I clicked submit... I got to hear a whip crack!

Hi Alex
The majority of tables were knife makers (on the custom knife show side), but there was still a good variety of other arms, supplies, and whatnot ! I got the feeling that the shows being next door to each other really benefited all the sellers & makers (not to mention we patrons ;-), so it was a great take all around !
There is alot of walking involved at these shows .... just to get from one end of these big hotel/casinos starts to log the miles on ones feet ! Than there is the milage logged while looking at everything ! Unlike Mac, who is forever in his steel-toe logging boots, it would probably be wise to wear a good pair of sneekers, or something soft & comfortable !
We always asked permission when photographing any of the tables, or items, and I don't remember a single vendor saying we couldn't .... everyone was very accomodating & helpful ! (at least all the folks I encountered)
Ben
It's funny .... I know the exact photo I took when you took that picture of me photographing Vince's table !
(it's the shot of the two dirks pommel caps posted earlier in this thread ;-)
Yup, it was a good time in Vegas ! Mac

Ben & Mac,
Thanks for sharing the show with us.
A few comments.....
*The Albion Next Generations look very very nice.
*Mac, congrats on the Eljay basket-hilt.
*If I'm not in Iraq this summer, I'm going to have to make another trip to Las Vegas. It's a pretty cool place to visit; I went for the 1st time this past July.

The Oxtail was a newly made one. Vince is getting more and more clever in hiding his numbering of his pieces, but I'm figuring this one is in the low 1400s.

Hi Ben
I cropped the big file of that picture and zoomed in on you & Nicholas Marcelja of Red Troll Forge !
So now we can watch your purchase up close & personal ;-)
I also cropped & zoomed in on that shot of the hall with Vince in the distance, so no one is safe from Mac's sniper Canon !

I cropped an Angel sword table pic to try and bring up some of the stuff that was not really the subject of what I was shooting at the time ..... not the best quality, but hey ..... why not !
I also clipped a few other ones, and threw in a few alternate shots & whatevers ..... Mac

Thanks Mac! I've enjoyed checking those out, especially the details on the little all-brass lemon-butt snaphaunce. VERY cool little pistol... but I think I'll just windowshop that one. The $18K is a bit past my present pocket change allowance... Still, very cool pictures, so thanks for the link!
Cheers,
Gordon
