I've seen people on this forum mention The Knight and the Blast Furnace more than any other book, so I might look into getting a copy and checking it out. It seems it is a $300 book! Even on Amazon  I'm sure that no one knows where I could get a cheaper copy (but if you do speak up).
Does anyone know where I could gain access to some previews, or maybe an entire chapter, so I could get an idea if it's something worth purchasing?
And/or, would anyone be willing to give me a thorough explanation of what the book is about and what it covers?
Thanks

Is it safe to assume that copies of this book will be written in english? That's a lot cheaper, I might purchase it from there if I choose to make the investment.

If you are somehow involved with universities as a student or teacher you most likely have a university library that has it.

Don't forget ILL! That way you can read before you buy.

Pieter, that's actually a good point. I believe I have access to my city's university's library, and I'll certainly check my city's library too.
What is ILL?

It's getting very difficult, Brill books (publisher) are very expensive. I tried to get one on an inter-library loan, only to be told that the British library will not lend off site any more. The only way is to get a reader number and travel to the British library to read your book there!

Duke U. has a copy, and there's another a few miles down the road. There are a few other copies within a couple of hundred miles. I think ILL has a chance, if the Duke copy hasn't disappeared.

My copy cost me 6 months worth of my discretionary book budget. It was worth it to me. I refer to it all the time.

How exactly does this work? They give me the book on a payment plan or something? Or, are they loaning me the book, like any other library?
The library idea sounded like a good idea at first, but this book is absolutely huge and will surely take me a while to really get into. I will likely stick with the google preview if there is anything I want to look at while I wait to actually purchase the book. I have no doubt it would be an incredibly useful resource.

You will have to go to your closest public library and get them to do the ILL, or go to Duke and get a non university borrower's card. Then it will be treated like any book you have checked out. The good thing about going to Duke is that it might be possible to renew it, or at least check it out repeatedly as you are able.
