Here are some photos of my new rondel dagger. It was created by Tod's Stuff of Oxford, England and styled to represent a late 14th century weapon. It's overall length is 17.5". The dark bits are horn. I'm very pleased with this piece and hope you enjoy seeing it.

That's really nice. Did he base that off any historical piece in particular?

WoW! Really, really nice. I love the way the bottom rondel fits into the sheath. Color me green with envy!

For inspiration we started with the thick hilted dagger shown in the feature Spotlight: The Rondel Dagger

It's obviously not a replica but I wanted something that would the look and feel of an earlier rondel.

What kind of blade profile does it have, is it triangular or hollow ground? I can't quite tell from the photos. This is a really nice piece by Tod. I've liked all of his work before, but I really like this rondel dagger.

It's comfortable and fits my hand well. Beyond that I can't say.

The blade has a flattened diamond profile, no hollow ground.

Wow, the dagger really looks fantastic.
Is it possible that the inspiration is displayed at the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin? I´ve been there only last weekend, but the picture was taken some months ago.

This was feature of many 14thC rondels and some early 15thC rondels and is a nice feature which I incorporate from time to time. It is not too tricky to do, it just takes quite a while and because of the leather moulding, takes a few days to complete.

These things are obviously personal, but I think most people would agree that it wouldn't slip in the hand easily!. The hand fits snugly between the rondels, the barrelling helps seat it in the hand and the studs and cross hatching certainly provide grip. This combined with the double discs and the heavy rondel blade mean this really does feel like a substantial piece.
