hi all, i'm currently profiling a haft for my long bladed spearhead and my flat buttcap from widlass but i have not money for stuff to do it properly so i'm using cement (basement floor as sanding paper works better than expecting) a file and a hand sanding machine ( took me 3 hours yesterday and did not finished the first side of the haft ).
after this project i'll have bionic arms hahaha!

I do that all the time, it works great. Though I usually use the driveway instead.

A draw knife would help and be an invaluable tool for years to come. I know here in california I can only find then in antique shops but even still, it only cost me $5.00 for it and with just a little bit of TLC it works like a champ and lets me turn out halfts and shafts
just a thought, check ebay. Even if you go to an antique shop to get it, you know what to look for and how much it is on the internet. if you plan on doing more than one project this is well worth the money
good luck
